Firstly, you will be taken to the Dunhuang Museum. The Dunhuang museum contains the history of the city and a summary of the Ancient Silk Road. Located on East Yangguang Road in Dunhuang City. Founded in October 1979, formerly known as the archaeological team of the county cultural center. The building area is 2400 square meters. There are a large number of precious cultural relics in Dunhuang, and there are more than 13000 cultural relics in the museum.The museum is divided into four exhibition halls. The first hall mainly shows the history of Dunhuang in Han Dynasty. Second hall mainly shows the cultural relics. The third and forth hall mainly shows the real objects such as silk, brocade, and muslin are exhibited, providing sufficient evidence for Silk Road. You can visit these halls one by one to know the history of Dunhuang from prehistoric times to the Qing Dynasty.


After lunch, pay a visit to the Mingsha Mountain (Crescent Lake), People say that if you want to experience how the caravans of the ancient Silk Road trade, you must go to Mingsha mountain. Mingsha mountain makes a sound when it is sunny or someone is sliding down from the mountain, so it is called Mingsha mountain. There is also a strange phenomenon here. Because of the terrain, when the wind blows, the sand does not go down the mountain, but flows from the bottom of the mountain to the top of the mountain, so Crescent Lake will never be buried by the sand, which is called a desert wonder. Riding a camel through the desert is very popular. Surrounded by the Echoing Sand Mountains, Crescent Lake is a beautiful oasis with some well decorated traditional Chinese architecture, some trees and flowers and a lake that has never dried up and shapes like a crescent moon.

After breakfast, you will be taken to the Mogao Grottoes, among the numerous tourist attractions along the Silk Roads, Mogao Caves Scenic Area is classical and should not be missed. The Mogao Grottoes (also known as Thousand Buddha Cave) is one of three noted grottoes in China and also the largest, best preserved and richest treasure house of Buddhist art in the world. Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes is a largest quantity of Buddhist sutras and relics kept in the caves have provided valuable material for a study of ancient China's politics, economy, and culture and arts, as well as its science and technology, military affairs, and religion, documenting national history as well as cultural exchanges between China and the world.


In the late afternoon, escort to the Shazhou Night Market, In China, night market must be the best place to experience the local customs. This night market is the biggest open-air market of Dunhuang. Located in Yangguan East Road. It is the largest night market in Dunhuang, and also the gathering place of Silk Road food and Silk Road crafts. Because of its distinctive local characteristics and rich folk customs, it is known as Dunhuang "night view" and "landscape painting". At night, tourists crowd this place - exploring the area and enjoying the scene. If you love to buy souvenirs, check out the souvenirs vendors in this area - the stalls stretch from the entrance to the end of the street - selling antique handmade handicrafts.


After the dinner in Shazhou Night Market, drive back to your hotel in Dunhuang.

Day 3 Dunhuang

In the early morning, drive around 100km you will first arrive at Yumenguan Pass which used to be a military defensive pass as well as an important border for international trading along the ancient Silk Road. It was so named because the jade of Hotan in nowaday's Xinjiang region was transported to central China through this pass. In his poem Go North of Great Wall, the Tang Dynasty poet Wang Zhihuan had the famous line, "Beyond the Yumen Pass the breath of Spring has never crossed". The mention of Yumen in the poem has made the pass more famous. Today, there is not much left and the only visible architecture there is the dirt tower. Wilderness dominates the area.


After lunch, drive around 80km to the Yardan National Geologic Park. Located at 180 km northwest to Dunhuang, it is one of the world's largest area of yardang landform as significant natural heritage under State level protection. The site is classified as a Geological Park under State level protection. The site is of natural heritage significance, being the largest known area of yardan formation in the world.


Finally, you will be taken back to your hotel in Dunhuang.
