To kick off your day, your local guide will meet you at your hotel with a “Your Way Holiday” sign. After warmly greeting you, the guide will accompany you to your comfortable vehicle, where your dedicated driver will ensure a smooth and efficient journey to the Terracotta Warriors site, which takes about 1 hour. Along the way, your guide will provide engaging commentary, offering insights into the historical significance of the site and what to expect during your visit. This attentive service is designed to enhance your experience and make your journey as enjoyable as possible.

Xi'an Your Way Holiday

Your first destination today is the renowned Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses Museum, often hailed as the "eighth wonder of the world." This extraordinary museum showcases an impressive level of sculpture artistry and is celebrated as one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. To date, a total of 179 burial pits have been uncovered in the Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum area, each with unique features and connotations. These discoveries have greatly enriched our understanding of the burial practices and structural characteristics of ancient China. Remarkably, none of these pits has survived intact from being burned, adding to the site's historical intrigue.

After your fascinating visit to the Terracotta Warriors, your guide will accompany you on a comfortable transfer back to Xi'an downtown for lunch. You will enjoy a delicious meal at a local restaurant, where you can savor some of Xi'an's famous dishes. For a true taste of the region, we recommend trying the flavorful Biang Biang noodles, the savory Yang Rou Pao Mo (lamb stew with bread), and the popular Spicy Lamb Skewers. Your guide will ensure a pleasant dining experience and be on hand to offer more recommendations based on your preferences.

Next, you'll explore the vibrant Muslim Quarter, renowned as Xi’an's premier food street. This bustling area blends rich Islamic culture with a lively marketplace, featuring an array of traditional foods and shops. With its history stretching over a millennium, the Muslim Quarter boasts streets paved with gray flagstones and Ming-style architecture, offering a glimpse into Xi’an's historic past. Established around 2000 years ago during the Han Dynasty following the Silk Road's opening, it was here that the first Muslim traders, envoys, and scholars arrived in Changan. Today, the street is a culinary haven where you can sample regional specialties such as hearty lamb soup with crumbled pancake, cold rice noodles, and the renowned Chinese hamburger. Don’t miss out on local delicacies like Xi’an small cakes, Shaanxi-style pasta, and rice cakes. The street is especially celebrated for its beef and mutton dishes, with the roast beef standing out as a particular highlight.

After breakfast, your dedicated tour guide will greet you in the hotel lobby, ready to begin an enriching day of exploration. Your first stop is the iconic Big Wild Goose Pagoda. Located in southern Xi'an, this historic Buddhist pagoda is a symbol of ancient Xi'an and a testament to its rich cultural heritage. Originally constructed in 652 during the Tang dynasty with five stories, the pagoda was later expanded to its current form in 704 under Empress Wu Zetian and underwent renovations during the Ming dynasty. Renowned for its significant role in Buddhism, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda once housed sacred sutras and Buddha figurines brought from India by the esteemed monk Xuanzang. As a National Key Cultural Relic Preserve, it attracts numerous visitors with its serene simplicity and historical significance, making it a must-see landmark in Xi'an.

Next, you'll visit the Shaanxi History Museum, conveniently located northwest of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. As one of China's four largest museums with modern facilities, it stands out for its extensive collection and striking design. Constructed between 1983 and 2001, the museum is designed in the traditional Tang architectural style, echoing the elegance of the Tang Dynasty. Inside, you'll find over 370,000 artifacts spanning more than a million years, from ancient murals and paintings to pottery, coins, and precious metals. This impressive museum, often called "the pearl of ancient dynasties," offers a comprehensive view of Chinese history, culture, and daily life over the millennia. Its exhibition spaces include an introductory hall, permanent and special exhibitions, and the National Painting Hall, showcasing the cultural richness and development of ancient Shaanxi and beyond.

Then, you'll head to the Xi'an Ancient City Wall, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site. Constructed during the 14th century under the Ming Dynasty's Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, this iconic structure served as a formidable military defense system designed to safeguard the city. Remarkably preserved, the city wall is among the oldest and largest of its kind in China. It offers a rare glimpse into the architectural grandeur of feudal China, showcasing the complete features of traditional rampart construction. Standing atop the wall, you'll enjoy panoramic views of Xi'an and appreciate its historical significance as a strategic fortification that protected the city through centuries of change.

Chengdu Your Way Holiday

Day 3 Chengdu

  • Place&Transport: Chengdu

After breakfast, our tour guide will meet you at your hotel lobby to commence your Chengdu adventure. Your first stop is the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Centre, a premier destination for panda enthusiasts and conservationists alike. This renowned facility is dedicated to the protection and breeding of endangered species, including the iconic giant pandas, red pandas, and black-necked cranes. At the center, you’ll explore lush, expansive enclosures designed to mimic the pandas' natural habitats, providing an immersive experience into their daily lives. The center also offers engaging educational programs that highlight efforts in panda conservation and habitat preservation. For lunch, you'll be treated to a culinary experience at a local Chinese restaurant renowned for its authentic Chengdu cuisine. Here, you'll have the opportunity to savor the true flavors of Sichuan, with dishes that are both bold and aromatic, reflecting the region's rich culinary heritage. Our knowledgeable guide will be on hand to provide personalized recommendations, ensuring you enjoy the best of Chengdu's gastronomic offerings. Whether you're in the mood for classic dishes like Mapo Tofu, Kung Pao Chicken, or the famous Sichuan hot pot, your dining experience will be both memorable and delicious.

In the afternoon, your journey continues to the vibrant and historic Kuanzhai Alley, also known as the Wide and Narrow Alleys. This area is a cultural gem in Chengdu, offering a fascinating blend of the old and the new. As one of the three major preserved historical blocks in the city, Kuanzhai Alley dates back to the Qing Dynasty and has been meticulously restored to showcase traditional Chinese architecture. The area consists of three parallel alleys: Kuan (Wide), Zhai (Narrow), and Jing (Well), each with its own unique atmosphere. Strolling through these alleys, you'll encounter a variety of attractions, from traditional Sichuan teahouses and quaint shops selling local handicrafts to modern cafes and art galleries. The alleys are adorned with intricate carvings, red lanterns, and historic courtyards, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of Chengdu. Kuanzhai Alley is not just a tourist destination; it's a living museum where you can immerse yourself in the local lifestyle, enjoy street performances, and savor the city's authentic flavors at the many eateries lining the streets.

The final stop on your tour is the revered Green Ram Taoism Temple, also known as Qing Yang Gong, a spiritual cornerstone in the heart of Chengdu. Situated along the tranquil Jinjiang River, this ancient temple is steeped in legend and history. According to tradition, Qing Yang Gong is the birthplace of Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism, and the sacred site where he delivered his first sermon on the Taoist teachings. As the oldest Taoist temple in Chengdu, Qing Yang Gong has weathered the passage of time, enduring numerous calamities yet standing resilient as a symbol of spiritual endurance. The temple is renowned not only for its significant Taoist heritage but also for its exquisite architecture, which houses intricate bronze statues and ancient relics. The serene environment, marked by centuries-old trees and sacred halls, offers a peaceful retreat where visitors can reflect on the profound teachings of Taoism amidst the whispers of history.

Hi

You might be able to help us with two other issues.

We arrive in Beijing on the 30th Sep and travelling by Bullett train to Xian on Wed 4th Oct for 3 nights. Any suggestions?

Also we plan to travel to Chongquig to pick up the Yangtse cruise on the 9th Oct to the 12th. We would like to see the Dazu caves whilst there and as much as we can in Chongquig whilst there.

Nothing is booked yet apart from cruise pick up on 9th and Beijing is sorted. So from Wed 4th to the 9th Oct is flexible. We thought Xian and Chongquig.

Do you do tours in these areas or have recoomendations

Kind regards

Tony
