Overview
Nestled at the northern foot of the majestic Qinling Mountains, just 28 kilometers south of Xi'an city center, Xi'an Qinling Wildlife Park is Northwest China's first and largest wildlife park. As a national 4A-level scenic spot, this 2,600-acre sanctuary is home to over 200 species and 6,000 individual animals, most notably the "Four Treasures of Qinling"—giant pandas, golden takins, golden snub-nosed monkeys, and crested ibises.

Reasons to Visit Xi'an Qinling Wildlife Park
Exclusive Qinling Wildlife: The only place in the world where you can see all four "Treasures of Qinling" in one location. The Qinling subspecies of giant pandas, in particular, is genetically distinct from the more famous Sichuan pandas and has a rounder face and darker fur.

Historical & Ecological Significance
Built and opened in 2004, the park fills the blank of large wildlife parks in Northwest China. Qinling Mountain is regarded as China’s natural north-south boundary and wildlife gene bank. The park undertakes wild animal ex-situ conservation, breeding and science education, protecting endemic Qinling species and spreading ecological protection awareness to global visitors.

Detailed Park Guide
Drive-Through Safari Zone
The drive-through zone covers over 120,000 square meters and is divided into three main areas: Carnivore Zone, African Grassland Zone, and Asian Grassland Zone. All visitors must take the free safari bus (included in the ticket price) or the paid feeding safari bus to enter this area. Private cars are strictly prohibited.

Carnivore Zone
The Carnivore Zone is the most exciting part of the drive-through experience. Here, you will see some of the world's most powerful predators roaming freely in large enclosures that mimic their natural habitats.

· Tiger Enclosure: Home to over 30 Siberian tigers and several rare white Bengal tigers. Tigers are most active in the early morning and late afternoon, so try to visit during these times to see them hunting, playing, or swimming in the ponds. The white tigers are particularly stunning with their beautiful white fur and black stripes.

Tiger-Enclosure2Tiger-Enclosure1

· Lion Enclosure: A pride of African lions lives in this area. You might see them napping in groups under the shade of trees, grooming each other, or the male lion patrolling his territory. The lionesses are the primary hunters in the pride, while the male lion protects the group from intruders.

Lion-Enclosure1Lion-Enclosure

· Bear Enclosure: Black bears and brown bears are the stars of this enclosure. They are often seen standing on their hind legs waiting for food from the feeding buses. Bears are omnivores and eat a variety of foods including fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat.

Bear-Enclosure1Bear-Enclosure

· Wolf Enclosure: A pack of northwestern wolves lives in this wooded area. Wolves are highly social animals that live in family groups called packs. They are very cautious and usually stay away from the buses, but you might see them howling or playing together.

African Grassland Zone
The African Grassland Zone recreates the vast savannas of Africa, with rolling hills, acacia trees, and watering holes. Here, you will see a variety of African herbivores living together in harmony.

· Giraffe Enclosure: The tallest animals in the park, with some reaching heights of over 5 meters. This is the only stop on the free safari bus where you can get off. You can buy a bunch of leaves for ¥20 and feed the giraffes directly. They will use their long, purple tongues to take the leaves from your hand.

Giraffe-EnclosureGiraffe-Enclosure2

· Zebra Enclosure: Herds of plains zebras roam freely in this area. Each zebra has a unique pattern of stripes, just like human fingerprints. Scientists believe that the stripes help to camouflage the zebras from predators and confuse biting insects.

Zebra-Enclosure1Zebra-Enclosure2

· Wildebeest & Antelope Enclosure:Large herds of blue wildebeest, impalas, and gazelles graze peacefully on the grassland. During the breeding season, you might see the males fighting for dominance.

WildebeestAntelope

· Ostrich Enclosure: The largest birds in the world, standing up to 2.5 meters tall and weighing up to 150 kilograms. Ostriches cannot fly, but they can run at speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour. They might run alongside your bus, which is a thrilling experience.

Ostrich-Enclosure1Ostrich-Enclosure2

Asian Grassland Zone
The Asian Grassland Zone features animals native to Asia, including several rare and endangered species.

Takin Enclosure: One of the "Four Treasures of Qinling". These unique animals have a distinctive appearance with a large, muscular body, a humped back, and a thick, golden coat. They are often called "goat-antelopes" but are actually more closely related to sheep. Takins are excellent climbers and can navigate steep mountain slopes with ease.

Takin-Enclosure1Takin-Enclosure2

· White-lipped Deer Enclosure: A rare species native to the Tibetan Plateau and surrounding areas. They are named for their distinctive white lips and muzzle. White-lipped deer are social animals that live in herds of up to 30 individuals.

· Yak & Camel Enclosure: Hardy animals adapted to high altitudes and harsh climates. Yaks are important domesticated animals in Tibet and other mountainous regions of China, providing milk, meat, wool, and transportation. Bactrian camels have two humps and are native to the deserts of Central Asia.

· Historic Chestnut Forest: A natural forest with over 100-year-old chestnut trees that were planted during the Qing Dynasty. The forest provides a beautiful natural backdrop and shade for the animals.

Walking Tour Area
The walking area is located in the western half of the park and covers over 100,000 square meters. It features over 20 animal pavilions, beautiful gardens, lakes, and leisure areas. This is where you can see the "Four Treasures of Qinling" up close and spend more time observing the animals.

The Four Treasures of Qinling
The "Four Treasures of Qinling" are four rare and endangered species that are native to the Qinling Mountains. Seeing all four in one place is a unique experience that you cannot get anywhere else in the world.

· Giant Panda Pavilion: Qinling pandas are slightly smaller and rounder than Sichuan pandas, with a darker coat and a rounder face. They are also more rare, with only about 300 individuals remaining in the wild. The best time to see the pandas is between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM when they are most active eating bamboo. You can watch them munching on bamboo shoots, rolling around, and playing with each other.

They are very intelligent and curious, and often interact with visitors.

The pavilion is home to about 20 crested ibises, known as the "Oriental Gem" for their beautiful pink and white plumage. You can watch the ibises flying gracefully over the water, wading in the shallow ponds, and building nests in the trees. The pavilion also has an exhibition area that tells the inspiring story of the crested ibis conservation success.

· Takin Pavilion: The Takin Pavilion is a separate enclosure located near the Asian Grassland Zone. It provides a spacious, natural habitat for the takins, with rocky slopes, grassy areas, and a watering hole.

Other Popular Pavilions
· Elephant & Rhinoceros Pavilion: The largest animal pavilion in Northwest China, covering an area of 5,000 square meters. It houses two Asian elephants and two white rhinoceroses. The pavilion features both indoor and outdoor enclosures, with a large pool where the elephants can swim and play. You can watch the elephants being fed and bathed at scheduled times.

· Flamingo Pavilion: Home to four species of flamingos: greater flamingos, lesser flamingos, Chilean flamingos, and Andean flamingos. Their vibrant pink and red feathers come from the carotenoid pigments in the algae and crustaceans they eat. The best time to see the flamingos is during feeding time when they gather in large groups.

Flamingo-Pavilion2Flamingo-Pavilion1

· Hippopotamus Pavilion: Features a large indoor pool where you can watch the hippos swimming and playing underwater through glass windows. Hippos spend most of their day in the water to keep their skin cool and moist. They only come out at night to graze on grass. Although they look slow and gentle, hippos are actually one of the most dangerous animals in Africa.
