You begin with a flight from Shanghai to Xi'an, about three hours. When you land, your Xi'an guide meets you in the arrival hall with a "Your Way Holiday" sign, helps with your luggage, and drives you into the city while telling you about Xi'an's history.
Your first stop is the Xi'an Ancient City Wall, one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved city walls in China. Built in the 14th century during the Ming Dynasty to defend the city, it is ringed with watchtowers, gates, and ramparts. You walk along the wall as your guide explains how these structures protected the city through the centuries.
At midday you have lunch at a local restaurant. Your guide helps you order Xi'an dishes such as dumplings, local noodles, or lamb skewers, and can accommodate dietary preferences.
In the afternoon you visit Bell and Drum Tower Square in the center of the city. The Ming Dynasty Bell Tower and the Drum Tower once marked the hours: the bell rang at dawn, and the drum coordinated activity across the city. Shops, cafes, and old streets surround the square, and you can see the towers' architecture close up.
Nearby is the Muslim Quarter, a food street where Islamic and Shaanxi traditions meet. Your guide takes you past stalls selling dishes such as yangrou paomo, a lamb soup with bread, cold rice noodles, roujiamo, and Qishan noodles. The quarter is also home to the Great Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in China, which blends Chinese architecture with Islamic design, and your guide explains the history of Xi'an's Hui Muslim community.
Your guide then drives you to your Xi'an hotel and helps you check in to finish the day.
In the morning your guide meets you at the hotel and drives you out to the Terracotta Warriors site, about 40 minutes from the city.
The Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important archaeological finds of the 20th century, rediscovered in 1974. Life-sized soldiers, horses, and chariots were buried with Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of a unified China, and each figure was made with its own features. Your guide explains the burial pits and what they show about the emperor's army and court.
You have lunch at a local restaurant chosen by your guide, where you can try dishes such as Xi'an dumplings, grilled lamb skewers, and Qishan noodles in a rich broth. Your guide can accommodate dietary preferences.
After lunch you visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist tower first built in the Tang Dynasty and standing about 64 meters tall. The monk Xuanzang used it to keep the Buddhist scriptures he brought back from India, and your guide explains how the pagoda grew and was rebuilt over the centuries. The gardens around it are a quiet place to walk among the pavilions.
To finish the day, your guide helps you check out and arranges your transfer to Xi'an train station or onward to your next destination, based on your requirement.
